Statesmen punch ticket, to face Barry in NCAA South Region Tournament

CLEVELAND, Miss. – Coach Jim Boone and No. 25 Delta State University (24-6) are going dancing this week, as the Statesmen received a No. 3 seed in the upcoming NCAA Division II Basketball Tournament and will open play Saturday, March 15 versus No. 6 seed Barry University (19-8) at 12 p.m. EST.  Top seed Florida Southern College (26-4) will serve as the event’s host and all games will be played in the Jenkins Field House (1,800).

Saturday’s game with Barry will be the first between the two schools on the hardwood in men’s basketball.  The Statesmen, who won the regular season Gulf South Conference title, faces a Buccaneers club that finished fourth in the Sunshine State Conference regular season standings and lost in the quarterfinals of the SSC Tournament to Eckerd, 83-73.  DSU lost in the semifinals of the GSC Tournament to Christian Brothers University 67-64.

Game 3 – #1 Florida Southern (26-4) vs. #8 Tuskegee (18-11), 5 p.m.
Game 4 – #4 North Alabama (22-9) vs. #5 Tampa (20-9), 7:30 p.m.

Sunday, March 16 – Semifinals
Game 5 – Winner of Game 1 vs. Winner of Game 2, 5 p.m.
Game 6 – Winner of Game 3 vs. Winner of Game 4, 7:30 p.m.

Tuesday, March 18 – Championship Game
