Jim Boone set to speak at Nike Clinic Oct. 3-5

CLEVELAND, Mississippi – Delta State University head men’s basketball coach Jim Boone is set to speak at the prestigious Nike Basketball Clinic Oct. 3-5 in Omaha, Nebraska. The three-day event will feature Boone, Creighton’s Greg McDermott, St. Louis University’s Jim Crews and several of the nation’s top high school head coaches. The Nike Clinic will be held at D.J. Sokol Arena on Creighton University’s campus.

Boone, known as one of college basketball’s top defensive coaches, has engineered a remarkable turnaround in just two seasons at DSU. The Winfield, West Virginia native led the Statesmen to a Gulf South Conference regular season title a year ago after Delta State posted a 26-7 overall record and a 16-4 finish in league play.

Led by All-American power forward Willie Readus and All-GSC and All-Region point guard Devin Schmidt, the Statesmen marched to the NCAA Sweet 16. In Boone’s first season, DSU went 11-16 and 7-11 in league play after inherting a program that went 6-21 prior to his arrival in Cleveland.

Boone is the author of countless articles on the “Pack Line Defense” and the star of the “Pressure Pack Line Defense” DVD.

Coming off the heels of the Nike Clinic, Boone and his staff will host a free coaches clinic for local, state and regional high school coaches Oct. 10-11.  The two-day event begins with registration from 5-6 p.m. at Sillers Coliseum.

Coach Boone and his staff have secured a special rate for clinic participants at the Hampton Inn (662-846-2915) or the Holiday Inn Express (662-843-9300). When you call to book your room, please request the DSU Coaches Clinic rate.
